The PTS Barricade Story
PTS Barricade didn’t begin as a business idea. It began with a personal training need.
While living in Jamaica, I realized there was a gap in my own training. I was a licensed firearm owner and concealed carrier in both Jamaica and New York City, but I wanted to develop skills that I wasn’t getting from conventional range practice.
What I wanted was simple: a lightweight, portable device that I could take to the range and use to practice working around cover and concealment.
At the time, I didn’t even know those were the terms for what I was trying to accomplish. I just knew I wanted to be able to practice shooting from different positions, around obstacles, and from the sides and openings of a barrier.
When I returned to New York, I built a simple barrier out of a cardboard box and attached it to a makeshift stand.

I took it with me to the Nassau Rifle & Pistol Shooting Range on Long Island and set it up at the shooting booth. I began working the cutouts and sides of the barrier while engaging a paper target downrange.

Unbeknownst to me, a range officer had been watching what I was doing from outside the window.
As I was leaving, he stopped me and said, “You know, you could rent that thing. I like the drills you were doing.”
I laughed. I thought he was joking.
When I got home, my middle child saw the barrier tucked under my arm and asked what it was. When I explained what I had built, he immediately said, “Dad, that’s very smart.”
That conversation stayed with me.
I started looking online for a commercially available training tool that could do what my homemade barrier did. At the time, I didn’t even know what keywords to search for because I didn’t know that “shooting barricade” was a category of training equipment.
I couldn’t find anything.
Father & Son
So I searched the USPTO, drawing on my previous experience with intellectual property research, and was surprised that I couldn’t find a product that addressed the need I was trying to solve.
I never set out to invent a product or start a barricade company. PTS Barricade grew out of a personal need to train better.
What started as a cardboard box and a makeshift stand eventually became the PTS Barricade system—a consumer-portable, lightweight and versatile training tool designed to give shooters more opportunities to practice positions, angles, cover and concealment, and unconventional shooting challenges.
Today, PTS Barricades are being used by serious shooters and professional training environments, including customers within the U.S. military, law enforcement, competitive shooting, and tactical training communities.
But the original idea remains at the heart of PTS Barricade: build a practical tool that gives shooters a better way to train.

From an Idea to a Training Tool
What started as a simple solution to my own training problem continued to evolve through use, feedback, and a better understanding of what serious shooters needed from a portable training barricade.
The goal was never to create something complicated. It was to create something practical, portable, versatile, and useful—a training tool that could be taken to the range and quickly put to work.
As PTS Barricade evolved, so did the environments in which it was being used. Competitive shooters, tactical trainers, law-enforcement personnel, and military users began incorporating PTS Barricades into their training and shooting activities.
That growth has reinforced the original idea behind the product: sometimes the best training equipment starts with a simple questionnaire:
“How can I practice this if I don’t have the right tool?”
PTS Barricade was created to be that tool. The original PTS Barricade design is protected by U.S. Patent No. 10,825,349 B2.
What We Believe
We believe good training should challenge you.
